Risk Factors for Developing Type 2 Diabetes

Your chances of developing Type 2 Diabetes depends on a number of different factors, including your family background, your weight, and body shape, and how much physical activity you take.
Those that have lower risk to develop Type 2 diabetes are the following:
- When few or only one family member with diabetes
- Caucasian
- No previous gestational diabetes
- Fairly active
- Normal weight for height
Those that have higher risk to develop Type 2 Diabetes are the following:
- When many family members with diabetes
- African Caribbean or South American
- Have gestation diabetes in the past
- Very little activity everyday
- Overweight, especially around the waist
