What is Type 2 diabetes?

Type 2 diabetes is the most common type of non-insulin-dependent diabetes in which the body cannot regulate the blood glucose, blood pressure,and blood fat levels properly. This will somehow affect ones long-term as well as short-term health. A combination of treatment and healthy lifestyle can help reduce the risk of developing complications. In the past, this type of diabetes affects mostly older people (that is why it is called maturity onset diabetes) but now, more and more younger people has type 2 diabetes.

When you have diabetes your body cannot use your body’s main source of energy, glucose, in the usual way. Glucose is absorbed by your body cells and are burned as fuel. But when you have type 2 diabetes, glucose stays in the bloodstream because the insulin which regulates blood glucose level is either not working properly or your pancreas does not produce enough of it.

High blood sugar level results to wide range of symptoms which include intense thirst, and passing frequent or large amount of urine. You would be prone to other ailments like heart and circulatory system which will lead to high blood pressure, high blood fat level. Having high blood pressure if left untreated may damage your kidneys, nerves and eyes.
