A diabetic patient is also prone to low blood sugar condition called hypoglycemia. Does grabbing sugary items like candies, cookies, brownies, or chocolates help? According to some studies this will only make you feel worse. Its like you’re trading one problem for another because candies, cookies, and other sugary items will have more calories than the recommended treatment and it may take longer to raise your blood glucos level.
Jill Weisenberger, MS, RD, CDE of a Lifescript Nutrition Expert recommends pure glucose in tablets, gel or liquid. These work quickly, pre-portioned, and contain minimum amount of calories.
