Healthy fats are essential to good health

The human body uses fatty acids to do everything from building cell membranes to performing key functions in the brain, eyes, and lungs.
The following summarizes the role of fats in human system:
Fats constitute 60% of the brain and it is essential to majority of brain functions such as learning abilities, memory retention and emotion. Fats are very important gestating women since fatsĀ  are essential in fetal brain development.

Cells are kept intact, strong and flexible because the cell membrane that bounds the cell organelles is made up of fatty acids
60% of heart energy comes from the metabolism of fats. Specific fats are used to help keep the heart beat at regular rhythm
High concentration of fats is required in lung surfactant which enables the lungs to work and keep from collapsing
Fats in a meal slow down digestion process so the body has more time to absorb nutrients.
Fats provide constant level of energy which keep our body energized for a long time.
Fat solublbe vitamins like Vitamin A, D, E, and K can only be utilized in the body if fat is present
Fats provide cushion and protects internal organs
Some fats eases inflammation, helping metabolism and immune system keep functioning.
