Last week I posted a blog entitled Should You Stop Taking Vitamins?. In that article it pointed out some reasons why vitamins may shorten your life instead of prolonging it. And one is that people who take vitamins generally make more poorer health choices. The perceived benefits of multivitamins may cause people to cheat on their diets and workout regimens.
The general perception is that taking a pill vitamin supplement is a good way to compensate all that you missed in your daily diet.
A study conducted on adult men linked the use of Vitamin E supplement with the risk of prostate cancer by 17% The subjects were assigned to take 400 unit capsule of vitamin E for 5 years and compared to those who took placebos. The scary part is that a 400-unit capsule is just the regular, over-the-counter pill size, but the recommended daily amount for an adult is a 23-unit serving.
Vitamin E deficiencies are associated with neurological problems stemming from poor nerve conduction. Its a quite a disturbing revelation for those who believe that vitamins are harmless dietary supplement.
